5 K walk/ run is to raise awareness to the growing problem of heroin and opiod use. Too many of our young adults are getting taken away from us and it needs to stop now. Our best method of prevention is through education and outreach for parents and young adults.
In Maine, drug overdoses killed over 400 people and those numbers continue to rise . Most heroin and fentanyl dealths happen between the ages of 18-25 as Opiod abuse comes in many forms from pills to shooting up with needles. Fentanyl is 1000 more potent than morphne and often combined with other drugs without the user knowing. Drug dealers come into our state on a daily basis and set up shop in every town ,waiting for our children one by one.
We must bring awareness and end the stigma on drug addiction . It is a disease that is not biased . We are all at risk and we must start the conversation today.
We are looking for multiple people to volunteer with this 5K walk from check in, handing out water , and directing walkers on the route . Please email me if you would like to volunteer at firstname.lastname@example.org
