THE HELLGATE '100 YEARS' 5K FUN RUN Race Description

On Saturday, September 9th at 9am, celebrate Hellgate Bridge's 100th birthday with the Hellgate Road Runners and Astoria Post at Astoria Park. We are hosting a Kids' 100 Meter Dash and 5K Fun Run through Astoria Park and close by neighborhoods. Bring your friends and family to run, jog, or walk this beautiful area of Queens. The kids' race is free to ages 11 years old and younger.

After the awards, there will be a Little Ones Parade (around 10:30-11am), Hellgate 100 Year and Veteran's Memorial Service (11-11:30am).

At noon (12pm), an after-party being held at Singlecut Beersmiths, 19-33 37th Street, Astoria, NY 11105. Click here for more information and directions. A raffle will be held at Singlecut for those present!

5K Mile Markers and Water Stations

1-mile mark is on 20th Avenue and 28th Street. (water station)

2-mile mark is on Shore Blvd between 20th Road and 21st Avenue

3-mile mark is on Shore Blvd near the playground

Kids 100m Dash Info

> Starts at the corner of Ditmars and Shore Blvd. It finishes just under the Hellgate Bridge.

> It's free for kids under 11 years old.

10:30am - Little Ones Parade (Shore Blvd)

11:00am - 100 Year Hellgate Bridge Service, 9/11 Service, & Veterans Memorial Service

5k Fun Run Registration Costs

$25 Individual (guaranteed shirt/coozie)

$30 Individual August 15th - Race Day (September 9th)

***shirts may not be guaranteed after 300 participants***

Please sign up online or you can stop by the basketball courts in Astoria Park at 8am for same day registration.

Refreshments will be served after the race. Facilities will be available between the finish and start lines.

Q. How much does it cost to register?

It’s $30 per walker/runner for the 5K fun run. The kids’ 100m dash is free and open to children no older than 11 years old. For registrants under age 18, a parent/guardian must sign a waiver. Prices went up on August 15th!

Q. What do the proceeds of the fun run support?

Any proceeds will benefit the Hellgate Road Runners, a not-for-profit community organization. Learn more about us at hrronline.org.

Q. Will there be T-shirts?

You bet! But we can only guarantee your size if you pre-register by August 14th.

Q. Is there a bag check?

Yes, there will be a guarded bag check from 8am to 11am, though we can’t be responsible for any lost items.

Q. Will there be bibs?

Indeed there will! We want you to look official as you zip around Astoria Park.

Q. Will the fun run be timed?

No, this is a fun run, however, we will have a clock at the finish. Feel free to time yourself, though!

Q. Is the 5K course USATF-certified?

No, this is a fun run. Please click on course map to view route.

Q. Is there an age restriction for runners of the 5K or the kids’ 100m Dash?

Runners/walkers must be no younger than 11 years old for the 5K, and no older than 11 years old for the kids’ 100m Dash. For registrants under age 18, a parent/guardian must sign a waiver.

Q. May I push my baby in a stroller? Run with my dog on his leash?

Due to insurance restrictions, strollers and dogs are not permitted on the course.

Q. May I walk it or do I have to run?

As it is a fun run, you may walk or run but you must be off the course by 10:30am. If you have not completed the 5K by then but would like to cross the finish line, we ask that you move to the sidewalk and travel cautiously for the remainder of the route.
