I enjoyed this race; it was a fun local event. My only issue with the entire event was the women who were handing out medals. I approached the stand where the medals were and asked if I could have one (in every other race I've participated in I have gotten a participation medal). The woman at the stand told me the medals were for winners only and asked if I was a winner; when I said I wasn't she laughed in my face and said there "weren't participation trophies". I was not upset about not getting a medal but rather the way I was laughed at and treated by this volunteer. This really soured the whole thing for me and left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope next year the volunteers who aren't running can be kinder and more considerate.

The Cardiac Classic is a great Thanksgiving day race. It is well organized. The course is clearly marked. Schenectady’s Central Park serves as the starting and finishing area for the course which has some small hills throughout. The volunteers, runners, walkers, and spectators create a festive vibe. The pavilion adjacent to the starting area makes a great staging area for packet pickup and refreshments afterward. My only complaint about 2024 was that the race organizers couldn’t control the weather. I love snow- it’s just not conducive to fast race times. Oh well, nobody’s perfect. :)
