Mother's Day 5K Run/Walk for the Panzi Foundation Race Description

It is with great pleasure that Panzi Foundation USA invites you to take part in a new and exciting 5K Run/Walk on May 14th, 2017 at 9 am.  This is our first year hosting a race in Ann Arbor at the Health & Fitness Center at Washtenaw Community College.  The Panzi Foundation is a non-profit organization which advocates for human rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The organization also funds the Panzi Hospital which treats survivors of sexual violence. All of the proceeds of our run will be donated to the organization to help the recovery of these women. The holistic model of care provides patients with services that meet the full spectrum of their needs: physical recovery, psychosocial and emotional support, community reintegration, and legal assistance.

TIME Magazine named Panzi Foundation’s Founder, Dr. Denis Mukwege to its 2016 list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Dr. Mukwege, 2014 Sakharov Prize Laureate, University of Michigan Wallenberg Medalist and eight-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize,  is a pioneer of holistic healing for survivors of sexualized violence and other vulnerable women and girls. His model integrates  medical and psychosocial healing with education and vocational training, safe transitional housing, legal assistance, and social, familial, and community reintegration. His tireless efforts on behalf of some of the most vulnerable people in the world inspires people from all corners of the globe.  All the proceeds from our 5K will be donated directly to the Panzi Foundation. Please visit http://www.panzifoundation.org/ for more information.

The prize for winning the race in the men, women, or 65 and older categories is a 4 month free membership to the Health & Fitness Center at Washtenaw Community College. Help us support and celebrate women on Mother's Day by running or walking for the women of Panzi!
