Very Disappointing 2021 version of the McGuires Halloween Run
I have run this race 7 or 8 times and this version seemed to be an afterthought race with the costume contest being all that matters. I ran the 5K and finished 1st in my age group. During the awards, I was told there were no awards for age group, even though 10K age groups received mugs and the fact the entry form stated age group awards are to be given. The organizers tried to tell me the "participation" medal was the award, which is not and has never been the case in past years. If you want to run a race for runners, this is NOT the race to run. If you want a costume party, then this is the place. I know several folks hung around hours after the race finished to receive their award and sadly were turned away. McGuire's needs to make this right for those folks who placed in the age groups and overall. The second overall place finisher, also was not given an award which is ridiculous as well. Shame on you McGuires!
Best 5k and 10k runs in Destin.
I’ve run this race in costume before which is encouraged. Great route through residential streets near the bay. Start on Calhoun Ave and finish in the parking lot of McGuires where food and drinks are complimentary. They usually have stew and beer and their famous Irish wake. Plus bottled water for any hydration needs. Costume contest is really fun to watch with music also being played on stage. My favorite time of year with brisk mornings and great company. Usually around 600 to 800 runners and walkers. Missed the most recent one in 2021 after living in Destin for over 30 years and moving to Las Vegas. I will return one year to be a part of this great time again soon. Had so much fun and great memories on My last run in 2019.

YALL SUCK!!
Very disappointing. Someone totally screwed up. Could not find my time after the race. System said it did not recognize me. Asked Officialls @ the podium and they could not show me in the awards. I left. Upon returning home I checked website again. It showed my time and it was better than the first place winner in the race walker age group. However this was not reflected. I called several times only to be placed on hold. When I did get through I was told someone one would call back. I'm still waiting for someone. I also completed the contact form and as of today 11.14.2022 no response. This is totally unacceptable.
not for runners
This race went downhill. It has always been more of party event, neglecting the runners' safety out on the roads with very limited support, no mile splits, a single aid station. Food is still good after the race, and free beer does not run out, but 2 beers is my limit when I'm driving. I waited 1.5 hrs for awards, but left. Can't find any results either.

So I'm reading these runners crying about this run. I give this race 5 +stars. If you are running to win running awards don't run this race! Run this race if you want to enjoy life! It is our favorite family race! Stay the weekend ! Make a vacation out of it! Best fun race that I can think of, you won't be able to do it only once! (That's what she said!)

For all the whiners that wanted a trophy for running this run and didn't podium in the 5k..ARE YOU SERIOUS??? This is a WONDERFUL community event I've participated in at least 10+ years. It's one of the most fun runs I've ever taken part in!!! I also travel 4+ hrs to be in this run. By the way, I'm a very competitive duathlete and race all over the Southeast. If you want your precious little trophy and recognition, choose another run. You won't be missed, I assure you.
