On April 25, 2009, the first ever Ellen Reavis Race for Autism was held at Kit Carson Park in Albuquerque! A little over 200 people participated in what would soon become the largest autism related event in New Mexico! From that beautiful day on, in April of each year, families from throughout New Mexico gather to celebrate the joys, the struggles and the successes of those affected by autism. We gather to raise awareness and acceptance, to educate, to show love, and to support those we love affected by autism.
When the Ellen Reavis Walk for Autism began, the community rallied around the New Mexico Autism Community as they produced the first event of its kind in New Mexico. Since 2009, the support from the community for this event has grown, and we recognize the success of the event is because of this support! It is because of YOU we are celebrating another year of the Ellen Reavis Walk for Autism.
The event has continued to grow because of your support and features a walk honoring individuals on the autism spectrum and a 5K walk/run. This special day will include the Brotherhood Motorcycle Ride for Autism, sensory activities, food trucks, resource fair, and live music!
On April 18th, 2020, The New Mexico Autism community will once again gather to feel the enchantment that the Ellen Reavis Walk for Autism produces up close! Families, teachers, therapists, friends, and neighbors just to name a few will gather at Balloon Fiesta Park and help us celebrate the beauty our community adds to our wonderful state!
In addition to bringing the community together, this important event helps raise necessary funds that help the New Mexico Autism Society continue our vision of creating a community of acceptance, support, and connection for those affected by autism throughout New Mexico. This year alone, between community collaborations, support groups, educational workshops, community outings, resources and referrals, the New Mexico Autism Society has served over 5,000 people!
Whether you're participating on a team, as an individual, or as a volunteer, the WALK FOR AUTISM is a great way to raise your voice and join our force to create acceptance and awareness about autism.
Increase your impact by becoming a fundraiser! You can fundraise as an individual or as a whole team! Set a fundraising goal and help us surpass our goal of $30,000.
