Cure SMA Wakefield 5K

We are excited to host the 9th Annual Wakefield 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Lower Common in Wakefield, MA. The 5K is an amazing opportunity for local families and friends in the community to come together with a common purpose - raising funds for SMA research and support programs.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disease that robs people of strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat or breathe. It is the leading genetic cause of death for infants. SMA affects approximately 1 in every 11,000 babies, and about 1 in every 50 Americans is a genetic carrier for the disease. There is no cure – but we are asking you to help us change that.

The Wakefield 5K Run/Walk will be a fun-filled morning of running, walking, and rolling at this fast, flat, and scenic 5K course around beautiful Lake Quannapowitt.  Enjoy a chip-timed race, entertainment and emceeing by the fabulous New England's Best DJs, and a post-race raffle. Finisher prizes are awarded to the top 3 males, top 3 females, and first wheels.
