Asha Danbury 5K
Asha Danbury 5K Race Description
Run to Educate and Empower:
Date: Sunday, Oct 6, 2019 at 10:30 am, Rourke field, Bethel, CT
Schedule:
Registration/Check-in: 9:30 am-10 am
Address by First Selectman, Matt Knickerbocker: 10:15 am
More than 700 million people in the world are illiterate and two-thirds of those are women. Poverty, population growth, and war zones have deprived families of an opportunity of learning to read and write. An illiterate person is unaware of human rights and experiences feelings of fear and lack of power. At Asha Danbury we believe in education as a fundamental human right. Every child has a right to be in school. Run or walk to educate and empower.
There are many around us who are hungry and can't make ends meet. As part of the 5K event, we are organizing a Drive to benefit Bethel community food pantry.
Walking and running improve cardiac risk factors and offer protection against diabetes, inflammation, and obesity, among others. Participate in the 5K event and feel good from the benefits of an exercise while empowering those who depend on you to change their world. “End poverty in all its forms everywhere!” Show your support and Be a part of this event.
About the Run/Walk: The run/walk will start at 10:30 am with a kick off by First Selectman, Matt Knickerbocker. You will start the run at Rourke field on to Plum trees road to Maple avenue and Main street, then turn on to Wooster street through the beautiful neighborhoods, and back on Plumtrees road to end at Rourke field.
