WIll Marino Memorial Run

Welcome to our 1st annual Will Marino Memorial Run. Run/walk a 5K or 1 mile.

Location: Alameda Open Space in Albuquerque, NM.

7:15- 8:00 am Packet pick up on day of race.

8:00 am 5K start

8:15 am 1 mile start

In collaboration, and with the blessing of his wife Xiomara and son Carlo, this race is being organized by a couple of families of student athletes who were gifted the experience of Will Marino’s teaching talents.  He was a youth USATF Cross Country Coach in New Mexico for 18 years. Their families, and many others, have fond memories of traveling to USATF Cross Country Junior Olympics Regional and National Championship events across the country.  This built a legacy of running spirit not only in terms of realizing competitive potential but also in opening doors to boundless opportunities. Mr. Marino was an accomplished runner himself.  In his home state of New Jersey, he was Williamstown High School’s first State Cross Country Champion.  As a collegiate runner for Southern Louisiana University, his team became the 1973 Conference Champions.  During his high school coaching career, he led Cuba High School to a Track Girls State Title in 2012. Because of his countless contributions to Native running, he has also been an honoree during the annual Jim Thorpe run in Albuquerque.  Sadly, Will Marino passed in 2017.  We recognize the lasting impact he has made on our families and all of those he has coached during his many active years.  Through this memorial run he can continue to inspire all of us as a collective community.  We hope everyone, of all movement levels, will join us in celebrating his everlasting legacy.
