Whistle Stop Challenge

The Whistle Stop Challenge is a first of its kind running event for Southwest Mississippi! The Whistle Stop Challenge is a series of race events spanning 3 days from April 26, 2019-April 28, 2019. The race series is designed to take place in 3 different cities in Southwest MS along the railroad: Brookhaven, Summit, and McComb. The purpose of this design is to showcase the rich history of all three towns which were all started by, or trace much of their early success to, the arrival of the railroad in the 19th century. All three cities currently have beautifully preserved train depots which will serve as a perfect location to host the start and finish of each race. Each day of the weekend series will include a race in one of the three “whistle stop” towns. The series is also designed as a challenge event with longer race distances at each stop. The first event will be a 5K race in Brookhaven on Friday, April 26,  followed by a 10K race in Summit on Saturday, April 27, and then the grand finish will be a 15K race in McComb on Sunday, April 28.

​Runners will have the option to do 1 or 2 events, or complete the challenge with all 3 races. There is certainly a benefit to runners who choose to run all 3! Each race will have unique customized finisher medals- all featuring a different train car. Those who complete all 3 races will have a complete train!

The Whistle Stop Challenge is an event for the entire family. The Whistle Stop Kids 5K Challenge is the perfect way to encourage kids to be active at an early age. Each race will feature a 1 Mile Kids Run, with the last race being a 1.1 Mile race, giving the kids a combined 5K over the weekend. â€‹

Each race will be concluded with a Finish Line Party and awards ceremony. When you cross the finish line, the party is just getting started! Stick around and enjoy the food, music, and hanging out with your running buddies while you wait to hear the results at the awards ceremony!
