The Joe Lydon 5K for ALS Race Description
If you know Joe Lydon, there's a few things you know are most important to him: his faith, his family and friends, and running. One of his favorite events of the year is the Osterville Road Race. Every year he tries to recruit as many people as possible to participate, even if they can't keep up with his enviable speed. Even if you can't, he'll double back and run it with you again (after he finishes, of course).
You may know that right now he and his family are grappling with his recent ALS diagnosis. Obviously everyone that knows them wants to offer support, but it's hard to know how best to do that with such a daunting diagnosis. Joe's go-to advice in most situations, however, is to get outside and get moving to clear your head. In this spirit, we are organizing the first annual Joe Lydon 5K for ALS on June 13, 2021 in Osterville (route TBD) to show that we are here for him, Karen, Jill, and Sarah.
The entry fee and T-shirt proceeds will go directly towards Joe's medical costs.
Out of an abundance of caution, all in-person participants must be vaccinated and appropriately socially distance. An outdoor socially-distanced gathering will follow after for family and friends.
Those who cannot participate in-person can still support virtually! Virtual runners and walkers are encouraged to track their route on an app such as Strava or MapMyRun to share their run.
