The 50K ultramarathon course is a loop consisting of mostly single track trail, including long stretches on the Continental Divide Trail with trail sections in Blacktail and Thompson park. The overall elevation gain/loss is about 6,500 feet. The majority of the race will traverse through heavily forested National Forest lands with opportunities for spectacular views and potential wildlife encounters. Bear spray is not required, but it is recommended. The course will be well marked with five aid stations along the route. Cell service is limited. Race officials will have a means of communication at each of the aid stations. While the course is not as difficult as some 50Ks, it is rugged and remote with significant elevation gain and loss and should be taken seriously.
