According to a 2013 study by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs, every 65 minutes another veteran or active duty service member commits suicide. That’s an average of 22 suicides per day.
November is National Veterans and Military Families Month and we want to strengthen the community by helping bring awareness and much needed funds to this important issue.
During the month of November participants will be asked to run, walk, bike or swim to raise funds for Active Heroes. All running, walking, biking and swimming will be turned into “steps”. Once 500 participants download the application, Active Heroes will receive a $5,000 donation. The more participants and more steps, the larger the donation by Fitness Bank.
We encourage participants to move as much as they’d like during the challenge, but we ask everyone to move for a minimum of 22 minutes a day to bring much needed awareness to the 22 veterans, and active duty military personnel who commit suicide each day.
Active Heroes, an IRS approved 501c3 Charity. The mission is to support all U.S. military service members, veterans and their families through physical, educational, and emotional programs in an effort to eliminate suicide.
