6th Annual 5k Family Fun Run & Walk

As you may be aware there is a growing epidemic of childhood obesity in our Nation. Approximately

17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese. Childhood obesity has

quickly become a leading preventable cause of death and illness in children.

Many overweight and obese children suffer from dangerous, debilitating health problems including Type

2 Diabetes, Sleep apnea, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Low self-esteem and Depression. Childhood

obesity also increases the risk of potentially fatal health risks later in life. Obese children will most likely

become obese adults.

The Picture of Health Foundation, Inc., (POHF) is hosting our 6th Annual 5K Family Fun Run & Walk

(Bubble Run) on Saturday, September 17, 2016 which will include a health fair at the POHF location of

the finish line. This annual event has a dual purpose. First, our goal is to get several hundreds of area

youth to participate in the 5K Run/Walk and encourage regular physical activity. Secondly, the event is a

fundraiser that will ensure our continued health related events and programs can be developed and

delivered to the citizens of DeKalb County at no cost.

Join us, the POHF, in the Fight Against Childhood Obesity, 5K Family Fun Run & Walk (Bubble Run) and

do your part to change unhealthy lifestyles one community at a time.
