Disappointed with official timers and no start mat

Hello, 1. I enjoyed the race, but was dismayed when my official time did not appear online. I found the official timer guy, and had to give him the finish time I saw on the clock at the finish line. I told him I saw no starting mat. He eventually found me in the system and fixed whatever caused the problem. Then he told me it was a “gun time” race. Gun time? Why wasn’t that announced beforehand? It makes a difference to the “age groupers”. I took my time after the cannon because I presumed there was a starting mat somewhere that would indicate when I started. Very disappointed about this. I know this isn’t the New York Road Runners, but I think it is sort of rinky dink, and a throwback to races in the early 1980s before chip timing was around. The timing of this race was not at all what I expected from a race with 900+ entrants. Were you trying to save money by eliminating the starting mat? I try to place in the top 3 in my age group, but with this system and the organizers not announcing that it was a “gun time” start, I had no chance. 2. Some of the dogs on the course were a nuisance. One running near me was constantly barking. Another was on such a long leash that I had to tell its owner to keep it closer to her and away from me for fear of being tripped by the long leash. Is it really necessary to allow animals in this race? 3. Please continue having the water stop at the halfway mark. Very helpful. 4. Bathrooms at the high school before the race were much appreciated.
