(race date estimated)Pass the Torch 5K Race Description
In 1936, Jesse Owens won 4 Olympic Gold medals in Berlin and in the process became a Cleveland legend. Though a student at East Tech, he performed training for his races during High School at Rhodes in Old Brooklyn. His accomplishments during High School led him to Ohio State where he won dozens of awards and set school, Big Ten and national records.
At the Berlin Olympics each winner of a Gold Medal was also given an English Oak sapling in honor of their accomplishment. Owens returned to the United States with four, three of which have been lost to history. Old Brooklyn is incredibly proud to be home to the fourth and only remaining Jesse Owens Olympic Oak.
The 5k / 1k race celebrates diversity and inclusion by inviting participants young and old to take place. Senior Citizen Resources and Old Brooklyn Comm. Development Corp. are excited to host you this year.
