COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOL 7th Annual Live Like Jake 5K Run/Walk, Riverbend Park,

 May 8, 2021

PACKET PICKUP & REGISTRATION Online registration only. Packet pickup will be offered off site prior to race day. No packet pickup or registration will be allowed on race morning. This eliminates a touch point between volunteers and participants as well as congregating in these areas on race morning.

PRE-RACE SELF-CHECK INFORMATION The race registration page, registration confirmation email, and race day information emails to participants will state that participants, spectators and volunteers should not attend packet pickup and the race unless they have been in good health and symptom free from any illness for 2 weeks and they have not been exposed to someone else who has been sick in the last 2 weeks. Furthermore, runners and volunteers who have travelled internationally within the last 2 weeks will be advised not to attend the race. Lastly, people age 65+ or medically vulnerable people (chronic lung disease, moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, severe obesity, immunocompromised, diabetes, chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis, liver disease) will be discouraged from attending packet pickup and the event.

FACE MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING All attendees will be required to wear a mask and social distance before and after the race. Runners will be required to wear a mask before they cross the start line and after they cross the finish line. Anyone who refuses to cooperate with this requirement should be asked to immediately leave. We will encourage everyone to bring their own mask but will also provide masks to participants as they arrive and at the finish line after the race.

SIGNAGE Signage will be placed throughout the event site reminding runners to wear a mask and to maintain a safe social distance of at least 6 feet.

HAND SANITIZER DISPENSERS / DISINFECTING Hand sanitizers will be placed near the bathrooms and at strategic locations throughout the event site. Hand sanitizer will contain at least 60% alcohol and meet all CDC guidelines for such products. Designated staff to constantly wipe down “high touch point” surfaces (e.g. bathroom door handles) with spray disinfectant. RACE Start: The start of the race will be staggered, as opposed to the conventional mass start. The start corral will have 3 chutes with each chute being at least 6 foot wide. Cones will be placed out to ensure social distancing within the start corral. Each runner will stand by a cone until called to move up to the next one. The start corral will have 3 chutes with each chute being at least 6 foot wide. Every 10 seconds, a group of 3 runners will start (one from each chute). This staggered time trial type of start will significantly spread out the field of runners on the course. On course: A “no drafting rule” will be in place on the course which includes being no closer than 10 feet behind or in front of, or 6 feet beside other competitors at any given time. Runners may only pass one another when sufficient space is available. Water station: Volunteers wearing gloves and masks will hand out pre-filled water cups to participants. Volunteers will pick up discarded cups. Hand sanitizer will be available at the water station. Finish: Bottled or boxed water will be handed out to participants by volunteers wearing masks and gloves. Runners will not be allowed to congregate in the finish line area but asked to move through quickly to allow for proper social distancing. Runners will be scored by net chip time including the overall winners which is the elapsed time between when a runner crosses the timing mats at the start and finish lines. No printed race results on-site to avoid congestion of runners at result boards and displays. Results can be streamed live to the internet where runners can check their times on their smart phones.

POST-RACE REFRESHMENTS Pre-packaged food items will be handed to runners by volunteers wearing gloves and masks. The food line will be set up to ensure 6 ft social distancing. No self-serve items will be offered. SPECTATORS Spectators will be limited to only those accompanying a minor or a runner needing assistance. Spectators will be required to wear a mask. OUTBREAK NOTIFICATION PLAN A notification plan will be implemented. In case anyone becomes ill or shows any symptoms of covid-19, participants, volunteers, spectators and event staff will be notified (keeping HIPAA privacy issues in mind) of such a circumstance so that they may choose to take appropriate action to protect themselves, such as testing for exposure to the virus or voluntary self-quarantine. Also, public health authorities should be immediately notified, and every effort should be made to assist them with contact tracing to identify possible exposures and pathways of viral spread.

The best people!

I ran this race in 2016 for the first time and had a blast, except for the humidity. If you could fix that for 2018 that would be great! ;-) Seriously, these people are amazing! The set up is impressive and the presentation before & after were inspiring!!! They have passion for their cause beyond words and it shows at every step of the race. Great celebration after the race with fun for all! I highly recommend thus for the avid runner, the fun day with other seekers and everyone in between!!!

Great race for an important cause

Most races raise money for a cause. This race started out as one mother's mission to eliminate childhood drowning after she lost her son to an accidental drowning. No one has worked harder and is more passionate about this cause than Keri Morrison and her family. While some people would try and forget the awful thing that happened to them, Keri had to face her tragedy over and over again in order to raise awareness so that no one else goes through what she and her family went through.

Well organized!

Great race, very well organized! Having the restrooms accessible at the stadium was a big plus (hooray for no port-a-potties) I never felt crowded, there was lots of space and sponsors tents are nicely spread out. What a fantastic organization, I applaude Keri and Roarke for their bravery in supporting the memory of their son.
