Sprint Tri Review 2019

I appreciated that the swim portion was in a pool. There are people who are fearful of swimming in open water. This race allows them to take part in a triathlon. The bike trail is within the city limits. It runs along a river path. It’s not too long and it was well marked at the turn-around location. The run was a little challenging uphill the 1st half of the length but then the participants turn around and it’s mostly downhill from there. I believe the distance I completed for spring tri (not mini) was 450m pool swim, 10 mile ride, 5k run. I’d definitely do it again. I would have taken part this last spring but was unable to do so do to illness. Hope they have more this next year. Also to mention- registration was easy. Pre-packet pick-up took place at a downtown shoe store. DJFE had a nice check-in and staging area (it made sense) close to the pool-1st event). There were volunteers available to watch equipment. They had volunteers along the run path to hand out water. There was ample parking in an adjacent lot from the swim complex if one got there early. It may be a bit harder to find parking for spectators that arrive after the start. The finish line was celebratory- a FINISH overhead with spectators. They handed out swag and from what I remember water and a banana. Maybe more, but it’s been a bit of time from the event until this review. At the time of this event my husband and I had been training for another sprint tri in Ukiah, CA, just north of Sonoma county. In comparison, the DJFE was a perfect distance for me. I was grateful for the pool swim instead of the open lake. I also appreciated the 10 mile ride instead of a 20+ mile ride. As a beginner at that time it was less daunting and I had the opportunity to go for speed. I recommend this triathlon to anyone who may be timid about a triathlon. For the super beginner they offered the mini sprint. For the beginner or novice they offered the sprint tri. And for those advanced it was a good workout and great for a speed challenge. Hope this review helps! 5-stars!
