It was a beautiful day to swim. Water temp was perfect at 71, and it was smooth almost all the way across. The Coast Guard support craft seemed to be in sight at all times. This was my first Bear Lake swim - a good deal more difficult than the 10k at Deer Creek reservoir, a full 45 minutes longer. It was long, long, long, but very fulfilling to have done it. The 10k started at 9, which is a bit late for such events I think, but the swimming channel was completely clear of boats. The weak spot in the organization is getting back to the starting-point side of the lake after the swim. But we worked it out with a fellow swimmer and prepositioned a vehicle at the end-point.

The organization of this race was well done. A lot of great people swimming out there and they are really getting spotters out there to make sure everyone is safe while swimming in the lake! I really recommend this race and hope to do it again in 2024 whenever they make registration available!

United States. State of Utah. Open water. Utah Triple Crown Open Water Swimming Series 👑👑👑. The first leg of the Bear Lake Monster Swim. After not swimming in open water for a long time, Bohdan Olevych and I decided to try a short distance. One mile. After the initial struggle, Bohdan ended up third. But by the middle of the way he came out on top. An unpleasant mistake at the finish (he did not get between the finish buoys) prevented Bohdan from winning. As a result, the second place in the absolute standings. Then the second stage. We are getting ready.
