American Hero 25K Relay National Championship Race Description

Event Details:

American Hero 25K Relay National Championship, Sanctioned Race & Certified Course by USA Track & Field.

 

When: 
Sunday, Nov 22, 2020 

 

Where: 
The Runners Ranch, 23350 Campbellton Rd, San Antonio, TX 78264 

 

Time: 
The area opens at 6 AM: Opening Ceremonies, starting at 9:00 AM. First race (Kids 400) starts at 9:15. The 5k starts immediately after the kids 400m. After the 5k (2 laps) is completed the 10k (4 laps) and 25k Relay will start.

 

Prizes Include: 
T-shirts, medals, food (for all including quests) and $xxxx in cash, plus a Best Costume contest

 

Awards: 
Finishers Medal to all Finishers PLUS awards to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd to all 51 divisions. All kids in the 400m get a medal. 1st Relay (men & women) will be declared National Champions. 5k Buddies (must register) also receive a medal & t-shirt

Packet Pickup: 
Sat Nov 21 from 2pm to 5pm at The Runners Ranch, 23350 Campbellton Rd. SA TX 78264

Late Registration: 
Starting at 6:00 am at the Runners Ranch. Late fee at the event or at Packet Pickup applies. See fees below. Cash or money order only. NO CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS. Please be early. It takes time to fill out the form for 5 teammates if you are on a relay. It is the Captain’s responsibility to make sure his or her team is registered and on time for the event and the start.

Runner’s Staging Area near the starting point: 
Runners will warm up (prior to their baton exchange) any where except the trails. Teams are encouraged to stay together before, during and after the race to avoid confusion at the start, for the handoffs and for the awards ceremony. It is the Captain’s responsibility to maintain team integrity for all functions. Tents are allowed and encouraged. They can be set up behind the main stage.

 

The Race Course: 
All races will start and finish on the IAAP starting pad. It is a loop course over a sandy soil. Click on "Course Map" in this registration or go to website: https://www.americanhero25krelay.org go to Frequently Asked Questions and click on Map, then click triangle on the lower left of course pic for a moving animation. Recommend you jog over the course during the packet pickup.

 

The Kids Fun Run and the 5k may be walked or run. The 10k Solo Run and 25k Relay because of time constraints is for runners only although some walking is permitted. 

 

General Admission & Parking: 
No charge for general admission. No charge for parking. no charges for food/drinks.

 

If for some reason you cannot participate your registration will transfer to the next year at no extra charge. Contact Jesse Martinez at 210-822-6634 for special code to register the following year free of charge.

Entry Fee is per runner, relay consists of 5 runners:

Note: Each team member may register at any time and pay that month's fee. Team members may also register other team mates. Make sure the Team Name is identical for all 5 members. The first person that registers will establish a password and a team name. Provide password and team name to the remaining members. Team members may be updated at Packet Pickup or at the event. See Relay Teams below.

Relay Alternates: 
Alternates are allowed to replace registered runners who cannot participate. They must have the bib number in hand of the person they are replacing in order to get into the race without an entry fee. Go to the registration table and sign in to make the name change. Alternates without bib numbers in hand must pay $45 cash at the registration table.

On race day, alternates who have paid their entry fee will be allowed to join other teams needing a runner at the meet or join other alternates also looking for a team. Runners without teams will run the 5k solo.

Need a Team/Runner: 
You will be matched with other runners also needing a team (in the appropriate division). You will be notified at packet pickup when you are matched to a team. Fill out application and mark the applicable division/category and check “Need a Team” or “Need a Runner.”


Mailed Registration Entry Fee postmarked after  is $45 per runner for the 5k, 25k, Relay; for the 5k Middle & Elementary and Buddy 5k it is $40, for the Kids 400m it is $25

All entries are non-refundable even if event is cancelled. Your entry may transfer to next years race. Note: in 47 years the Free Spirits have never cancelled an event. We go Rain or shine. After expenses, all funds go towards scholarships for cancer survivors (includes other diseases, blindness and child abuse) and to our Partners (non-profit charities).

 

The American Hero 25k Relay Event is made up of four EVENTS with a total of 50 divisions:

1. The 25k Relay Divisions are for runners
2. The 10k Run Divisions are for runners
3. The 5k Run/Walk Divisions are for runners and walkers
4. The 400 meter Kids 12 and Under are for runners and walkers

 

All Relay teams must consist of 5 members.
A team member may compete in only one team, and perform one leg only. If a runner(s) are not electronically recorded they are disqualified.

No one may compete in more than one event.

If you sign up as a Buddy you must run/walk with your Elementary or Middle School partner. Buddies have Free Entry and receive the same awards.
It is not mandatory that an Elementary or Middle School kid have a Buddy to run/walk with.
It is up to the parents to assure their child has the confidence and conditioning to perform alone.

12 & Under 400m Run/Walk

Parents may accompany small children in the 400m at no cost. Only the child has to register. Only the child receives any awards.

Special Circumstances

Escorts for blind or disabled contestants do not have to pay entry fee. The contestant's entry fee will cover both. Both get T-shirts and medals.
