17th Annual Average Jo Triathlon Race Description

Please join us in beautiful Perham, MN for the 17th Annual Average Jo Triathlon.

Course Description:

Swim - 750M (.47 mile): Starting at the public beach near the entrance to Paul Miller park, athletes will do a clockwise slightly rectangle swim in Little Pine Lake that finishes on the beach. Average water temperature for late June is low to mid-50s, but can be colder depending on the weather leading up to race day. Water depth is approximately 8 feet deep. Spectators can view the race from several locations on the Paul Miller Park shoreline. Life guards will be available and the course will be marked.

Bike - 20K (12.5 miles): Bike along the scenic lakes area of Ottertail County. Enjoy lake views, sprawling pastures, and low traffic. The route is a easy down and back, with rolling terrain that includes a couple of climbs.

Run - 5K (3.1 miles): Leave Paul Miller park and run along beautiful Lakeside golf course and Arvig park in North Perham. The course features a paved bike trail that is off the road and lots of spectator support! There will be aid stations at approximately every mile with water and other snacks as well.

We will see you at the finish line!

Terrible

Course was terrible, swim buoys were white and not visible, the size of volleyballs in choppy conditions, 5k run turnaround was non existent, most of us ran well over 3 miles, some over 4. Race director has no business in his position. Chip times were so far off, just an absolute crap show.

Disappointing

Disappointing after having done most of the previous 16. Only two age categories and one relay award very disappointing. The unique oldest and youngest awards was disappointing for our eleven-year-old grandson. Having a more standardized racecourse was a plus with a 5 km and 12 mile bike, but not marking the 5 km turn around is a disaster. Years ago, when we did not mark it well and one of our course attendants misdirected people, the feedback was so negative we cancelled the triathlon after that. Hope that does not happen year because the course location and time of the year is great. Expect attendance to go down next year. Everything is correctable. Keep but mark the course with people in place who know what the correct course is, ideally adults, would be a start. Having standardized race categories would be reasonable. It costs less than one entry to give awards to many categories. Without them, only a few top competitors have any reason to come. The youngest and oldest is a nice touch. Hope things are better next year. It would have been helpful to have had a better transition between race directors.
