Seacoast Relay - NAOC/JTRR Race Description

START TIME: 9:00 a.m. with an early start at 8:30 a.m.
LOCATION: University of Alaska
This is a 5-leg relay starting at the UAS campus and ending at Eagle Beach Picnic Area. Beautiful course; burrito bar at the end! Costumes and good vibes encouraged.

Runners will run within the shoulder on the left hand side the road for all legs (facing oncoming traffic). At the roundabout, they will be observant for oncoming traffic that may not yield to pedestrians.
The cost is $25 per person (not per leg). JTRR members in good standing are eligible for a $5 discount.
This is a team event, however, you can register before the team captain has set up a team. Simply enter your team name or team captain on the registration form.
Part of this event is located on the Tongass National Forest
Leg one (~7.4 miles)
The race begins at the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) in front of the Egan Library. Proceed from the start line south to the UAS path that connects to Auke Lake Wayside then cross the Auke Lake parking area to the separated path along Glacier Hwy to Karl Reishus Blvd. Make a left onto Karl Reishus Blvd and proceed to the gravel equestrian trail that connects to Kaxigoowu Heen Dei. Take the gravel trail and then continuing along Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei to River Road. Take a left on Mendenhall Loop Rd (Back Loop) and continue to Goat Hill Road. Take a left on Goat Hill Road and proceed to Auke Lake Trail. Take a left onto Auke Lake Trail and proceed to the Glacier Highway separated path and return the same way to the UAS start.
Leg two (~3.7 miles)
Runners leave the start line and up the UAS path to Back Loop Road, taking a left onto Back Loop Road and proceeding to the roundabout. Runners will use the crosswalks at the roundabout until reaching the Dehart’s side of the road. Runners will proceed towards the ferry terminal on the left hand side of the road (facing oncoming traffic) and head north. Runners will turn left into the Auke Recreation area and continue to the end of their leg (just past the totem pole).
Leg three (~3.5 miles)
Runners will continue running through Auke Recreation towards the old Lena Road. The road will be well marked so that you end up on the old Lena Road. Runners will run along the old Lena Road until they reach the Lena Picnic area where they will make a left into the picnic area. The end of the leg will be near the last shelter.
Leg four (~6.0 miles)
Runners will make a left out of the Lena Picnic area onto the main highway and remain on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic. Runners will pass Tee Harbor and run towards the Shrine of St. Therese. Stage four will finish in the large pull out past the Shrine of St Therese. The finish line is two pullouts past the Shrine. Support vehicles should park in the first pullout and walk to the second to avoid congestion at the exchange station.
Leg five (~5.6 miles)
Runners will continue north on the highway passing Herbert River and Eagle River. Runners will continue on the highway past the Eagle Beach State Park Station and continue to the north entrance of the State Park. Runners will make a left on the drive that will curve to the south along the beach picnic sites. The finish line will be near the reserved Outer Beach picnic shelter.
Lunch (burrito bar) provided to all participants at the Eagle Beach finish line.
