Pet Pals Puppy Run

WHOOP (Women Helping Out Other People) is an all female service organization at Texas A&M University with five areas of service: Campus, Children and Youth, Diversity, Elderly, and Specials Needs. The Pet Pals Puppy Run 5K was created because of our deep love of serving others, which is why this race will benefit Therapy Pet Pals of Texas, a non-profit near and dear to our hearts. Founded in 1984 and based out of Austin, Therapy Pet Pals of Texas places volunteers and their pets (Pet Pals) in nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric and handicap facilities, and Special Needs centers, facilitating bonds between residents and the pets. Regular contact with a pet reduces stress and provides companionship for the patient. In many cases, the Pet Pal volunteers are the only visitors that the residents will receive. Their services are free to all healthcare facilities and institutions in need of pet therapy. In 2015, TPPT volunteers logged 12,218 hours in service to their communities, traveled approximately 92,384 miles (at their own expense), and they were responsible for 127,832 smiles from the residents and patients they visited!
