New Mexico Doulas and Bravo Mic Communications are proud to present the second annual No Child Wet Behind Diaper Drive, 5K Race and 1 mile Family Fun Run/Walk. The Race & Fun Run will take place on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 at La Llorona Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico. All diapers and a portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Turning Point of Las Cruces to support its mission of information, education and support for growing families. For 6 weeks prior to the race we'll be out collecting diapers - come celebrate with us and guess the total number of diapers collected!
The 5K Race and 1-mile Family Fun Run/Walk departs & ends at La Llorona Park. 5K Line-up is at 7:45am, start is at 8am. The course is an out-and-back that runs along the beautiful Rio Grande River. It is paved for the first 1.3 miles, is then fine gravel and small rock to the turn around point, and ends back on the pavement. The Family Fun Run lines up at 9am.
Participants are encouraged to wear their race day shirts from RojoInk.com to show their support for the cause. Please note: Shirt size is only guaranteed with registrations before April 20th.
The event includes Music, a Vendor Expo featuring local businesses, and a Family Fun Area with bouncy castles, face-painting and balloon animals, and a local Las Cruces Fire Station Ladder Truck for the kids to explore and learn about.
In addition to New Mexico Doulas and Bravo Mic Communications, local sponsors of this event include: Memorial Medical Center, Bumps, Babies & Beyond Expo, Rhea Lana's of Las Cruces, French Brothers Builders, Bumps, Babies & Beyond Expo, Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce, and MANY more!
The 5K Team Run, a/k/a the Golden Diaper Championship, is an exciting chance for you and fellow co-workers or friends to each run the 5K. The largest registered team will receive the Golden Diaper Award and the title of Golden Diaper Champions.
Online registration closes 5/3/17. Late registration will be available at packet pick-up on 5/4/17 and on Race day.
About No Child Wet Behind
No Child Wet Behind is a 501c3 dedicated to awareness, education and the donation of diapers to needy families with infants and small children.
When a family struggles to, or is not able to, provide diapers for their child, they are affected both physically and emotionally. Programs exist to assist families with basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing, but surprisingly, diaper need is not supported by any government program.
No Child Wet Behind began as a local diaper drive and fundraiser with a 5k Run when owners of Northeast Doulas, a New York based Doula agency, learned of the struggle needy families were having keeping their babies clean and dry.
Starting in 2016, No Child Wet Behind events have taken place around the United States in support of this important cause and to benefit local charities in need of diapers. New Mexico Doulas hosted their first event in Alamogordo, NM in May 2016 and raised over 30,000 diapers for that community. We hope to break 50,000 diapers this year in Las Cruces and truly keep changing things in New Mexico!
