Mog Mile Driven WOD Race Description

History:

Join us in commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Operation Gothic Serpent with our Virtual Mogadishu Mile Event. This annual commemoration honors the heroic actions of Task Force Ranger and remembers the fallen warriors in Somalia on October 3, 1993. The daylight operations began in the afternoon on October 3 and did not end until the final Ranger element departed the city in a running gun battle now known as the Mogadishu Mile on the morning of October 4.

Purchasing a Mog Mile T-Shirt will help support Three Rangers Foundation and their mission. Please consider purchasing one during registration.

All proceeds directly support active duty and former Rangers, their families, and Ranger Gold Star Families from the US Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment, including veterans of affiliated supporting units.

The “Driven” WOD:

Following the baseline format for the Mog Mile outlined by Three Rangers Foundation, Team Driven in-conjunction with East Cobb Crossfit will institute their version.

This WOD for the event is comprised of the following x 4 rounds:

  • 19 sandbag ground to overhead (50/30)
  • Run 400 meters
  • 19 hand release push ups
  • 200 meter farmers carry (35/25) (kettlebells)
  • 19 sandbag step ups (50/30) (alternating legs, 20 inch box)
  • 100 meter sled drag (180/135) 50 meters fwd, 50 meters reverse

More info will be released via social media pertaining to the specifics of the WOD. Follow us at:  https://www.facebook.com/drivenraceseries

Rules:

Keep the sandbag with you the entire WOD. The weight is your “Ranger Buddy”.  The symbology relates to the dedication the Rangers have to their creed, “never leave a fallen comrade”

  • You cannot lose physical contact with it at any time. You may rest your sandbag within arm’s reach during any event that requires your hands, otherwise your “Ranger Buddy” is with you the entire WOD.
  • If you forget your “Ranger Buddy” at any point in the WOD, you forfeit the progress of that round, and you must start the round over.

WOD Symbology:

Even though the Rangers moved between 2.5 and 3 miles depending on their starting point, it has become known as a “mile”. You will carry your weight during the run to symbolize the gear the soldiers carried. For example:

  •       19 reps:  one honoring each soldier of Task Force Ranger killed during the battle and the day after.
  •       Ground to Overhead:  as the soldiers held up their rifles the entire time.
  •       Push-ups – as they fell to the ground and had to get back up.
  •       Squats:  as they sought cover behind anything available.
  •       Row/Bike/Walk:  the endurance the Rangers needed to complete the mission.
