Laps for Lipedema

Hello! My name is Dan Loeffler and for my senior project I am putting together a 5k fundraiser to raise money for Lipedema research. My mother was diagnosed with Lipedema and I want to help her and anyone else suffering from this disease by raising money to fund research for a cure.

Lipedema is an adipose tissue disorder characterized by an unusual fat distribution under the skin. Commonly misdiagnosed as simple obesity, the estimated 17 million women who suffer from this disorder have very disproportionate body shapes with relatively normal upper bodies coupled with very large hips and legs. The abnormal fat in the legs does not respond to diet and exercise, leaving this disproportion to increase over time. As the disease progresses, pain, tenderness and swelling increase while mobility decreases.

Very little research has been done to find a real cure for those suffering from this disease. There are management strategies, but they are often not successful over the long term. I am hoping that the money I raise with this race will help to fund additional research so my mom and others like her can find some relief from the pain.
