Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon
Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon Race Description
The Juneau Marathon (AK25009FW) and Half-Marathon (AK25008FW) courses are conducted on rolling, USATF-certified courses on Douglas and North Douglas Highways on Douglas Island (across Gastineau Channel from Juneau, Alaska). The AK... numbers are USATF certification codes valid through 12/31/2035.
As this is a relatively small event (full marathon less than 100 participants, half-marathon less than 250), the roads are not closed to vehicle traffic. Runners must run on the shoulder of the road (bicycle lane) and/or sidewalk when available, and not cross the white fog line into the lane of traffic. Both out and back courses are on the upland side of the road for both directions.
Event start times:
Marathon 7 a.m.
Half-Marathon 9 a.m.
There are no time limits for neither the marathon nor half-marathon. The course does not close at a specific time, and the finish line does not shut down until the last runner is in.
There is ample, free parking, very close to the finish/start area. Please schedule Uber/Lyft/taxi in advance if you don't have a vehicle. The start/finish is very close to a city bus stop, but it doesn't run early enough for the Marathon start: https://juneaucapitaltransit.org/routes/douglas/
Sportstats will be timing this event with ankle strap chip timers. Follow live results at www.sportstats.one or get the Sportstats Tracker App to share with family and friends! Participants can be followed using name or bib number. Online and onsite results will be available.
Ankle straps must be returned to avoid being charged a fee. The ankle straps will be collected by volunteers in the finish chute, before being presented with finishers medals.
Participants not able to complete the course must return ankle strap to course volunteer (preferably at the finish line).
The Juneau Marathon is a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.

It was challenging and fun to see all the dedicated people show up in the rain to race. With only 40-50 people running the marathon it was peaceful and not crowded like Disney races. The race organizers were extra encouraging all 5 1/2 hours of running.
