The Hotsinpiller Family and the Board of Directors of The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Foundation Inc. Welcome and thank you for visiting this site. 

The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Foundation Inc. is a public, non-profit charity based in Bridgeport, West Virginia, established by the family of Jim and Derek Hotsinpiller. The foundation is an ongoing tribute to two exceptional law enforcement officers.  Jim passed suddenly while an officer with the Bridgeport Police Department.  Derek made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the U.S. Marshals Service.  

The organization was established in February 2011, as The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the service of Jim and Derek. The original purpose was to  provide educational funding to deserving high school students and police officers. To date that fund has awarded 69 scholarships.  

The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. is excited to announce the expansion of our organizational purpose.  As of February 14, 2023, we officially evolved into The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Memorial Foundation Inc. 

This evolution has been many years in the making. With the huge success of the scholarship fund it was an obvious next step to diversify our charitable goals to include other avenues of service and support. Moving forward we will continue to support education and the pursuit of a career in law enforcement by providing educational scholarships. We will also support the safety of our law enforcement officers by providing safety equipment and other protective measures for the benefit of law enforcement officers including K-9 Officers. Additionally we will support our entire law enforcement community and their families to relieve unexpected hardships suffered as a result of injuries, accidents, disasters, and similar circumstances occurring while in the line of duty. 

It is a great honor to continue James and Derek’s legacy and to support those who are serving our communities in law enforcement daily and pursuing a degree in law enforcement. 

As we continue to grow as a foundation, so will our impact. We are excited to see what the future holds and the differences we will be able to make in West Virginia and beyond.
