About SLS Community

SLS Community champions the inclusion of neurodivergent adults.

Our vision for the future is a holistic approach to supporting neurodivergent adults with essential resources to flourish in a "live, work, play" community that will be woven throughout a transformative mixed-use development called Cato Springs in south Fayetteville. Along with impact partners, our goal is to orchestrate an effort that brings together a continuum of affordable housing options, employment, long term supports and services, clinical services, and recreational opportunities, enmeshed throughout Cato Springs. Our goal is to position SLS Community into a vibrant neighborhood to nurture a community spirit, provide an all encompassing approach for supporting neurodivergent adults, and cultivate meaningful connections for true inclusion in the workforce and community. The route for this race weaves through this site, nestled below the beautiful rolling hills stretching from Mount Kessler.

The premise of the SLS Community project is a “collective impact model”. This is in recognition that a collaborative effort is needed to help solve the complex social problems confronting neurodivergent adults. We believe that large-scale social change comes from better cross-sector coordination, rather than from the isolated efforts of individuals. We also know that this collective impact model requires the financial support of champions who acknowledge the need.

Currently, as a Medicaid waiver service provider, we are focused on scaling residential services, community events for neurodivergent adults, and day services in our new Flourish Center with a focus on individualized programming for vocational equipping, supported employment, and independent living skills. These supports and services are critical to assist many neurodivergent adults to achieve their daily goals, explore their dreams, live more independently, and harness their innate gifts to contribute their skills in society. Our goal is to holistically address some of the complex social issues that confront neurodivergent adults by keeping the focus on each person’s strengths, choice, and longing to connect and contribute.

Proceeds and donations for this year's race will go directly towards supporting a new Supported Employment service called Program Forge and other SLS services as we continue to grow. Program Forge is an individualized vocational equipping and job placement program that supports neurodivergent adults to forge a path towards placement and sustained success in employment.
