Terrible

Joe (the race director) has gotten very cheap and has become expert at cutting corners to save a buck. He provided no drop bag, the shirts were cotton tees, the medals were tiny and cheap, he didn’t schedule enough busses so half the field started 30 minutes late. They bragged that the PR medals would be at the finish but I never saw them I love the course but someone else needs to take over this race that won’t be so cheap and un organized

Drop 13

This was the most unprepared race I have ever ran. Waited in line for over an hour to load the bus in the morning. NOT ENOUGH PORT-A-PORTIES at aid stations...the lines were so long if you wanted to use them. The food at the end wasn't good. Overall, I was very unsatisfied with this race for the price I had to pay.

Never again

From riding the bus up (not enough buses) to chaos drop off, one cheap info magazine as swag in the swag bag, to crap food at the finish (people frantically putting together homemade peanut butter sandwiches)...I won't run this race again. Bad organization. Bad swag. Bad food at finish, bad support at the end.

Best Price for Big Cottonwood

No frills race with a great price compared to other races down Big Cottonwood Canyon. If you're comparing this to the Revel BC race ... you're not paying for a Revel experience. But, the course is FASTER than Revel! This is a great course if you're looking for a PR!

Never got any better

The course is beautiful, with plenty of bathrooms. That was about it. The swag was a copy of a magazine puplished last year, and a small plastic garbage sack as a drop bag! They didn't bring clothing down like they said they would. Finish line had very little. No real sponsorships. I've run much smaller cheaper races with better swag and a better finish line. They do offer several medals. Overall it was a disappointment for the cost.

If you're looking to run a half... keep looking... TERRIBLE

I will start off by saying that the course is amazing. On the other hand the rest of this race is the worst, most unorganized race I've ever ran. Joe is BEYOND cheap and very unprofessional. (As he will probably respond saying it's my own fault or something silly...) He kept screaming and threatening to beat people with a baseball bat at the start line and screaming at people on the later bus (even though the bus was the one that was late?) If you were looking for bathrooms on the course... forget about it. There weren't enough so many people were going to the bathroom wherever they could find open space. Thankfully I had signed up for the VIP bus because people stood outside and froze for over an hour before the start. The shirt is cheap and it came with a hat that I immediately threw away... UGLY. By the time I crossed the finish line I was handed the same medal that I got received back in 2015 and was told they "ran out" of medals... HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??? For someone who crossed not long after the 2hr mark... We all paid a lot of money to run the same race and get the same medal... if anything, doesn't the race org over prepare?? There should be enough for everyone. He knew well in advance how many runners to plan for... Everything was very cheap and unorganized and the volunteers/organizers were very rude and disinterested. I agree with what was said above about the emails as well.. very much a ramble and very unprofessional. I've run over 30 halfs and this is the worst. I swore to myself back in 2015 that I would never run it again and apparently Joe hasn't learned from his mistakes because it was worse than I remember. Especially to pay all of that $ and receive an old medal and trash apparel... YIKES. If you are looking to run big cottonwood, spend a little extra $ and run Revel... you'll thank me later. Also I agree with the comment above about the organization needing a revamp. Consider this your warning.. STAY AWAY.

Worst Race Ever

The course was nice but that's it. It was cheap, badly organized, and has an unpleasant vibe. The mc at the start of the race kept screaming and threatened to beat people with a baseball bat (fyi not the best way to set the vibe before a long run). There weren't enough bathrooms so people were peeing in the woods. Waited over an hour for the bus up and got there just as the race started. The shirt is cheap dollar store quality, the swag was literally a packet of fruit snacks. The powerade was so watered down it might have been colored water. They ran out of gels at the only aid station with gels and by the time I got the finish line there was a basket of granola bars similar to what school kids have in their lunches. Maybe there was more food earlier but that makes it worse. I paid for the race same as the faster runners. There should be enough for everyone. The toilet situation was a joke. Had to run four miles before I got to some that didn't have a line 20 people deep because there wasn't enough time or thrones at the top to deal with it. Imagine a race run by Ebenezer Scrooge and you'll get the idea. Everything screamed cheap and unorganized and disinterested. Took 10 minutes for someone to dig my drop bag it from a pile of loose clothes. I'm surprised I even got it back. The emails leading up to it were rambling and unprofessional. I've run 10 halfs and this was by far the worst and not at all worth the money. I would have had more support strapping on a callback and running it on my own. I'm sure the rd will respond with some condescending and aggressive comment implying everything is fine and the runner is at fault for not enjoying it (as he has with all the other negative comments) but don't believe it. Imo, this whole organization should be replaced. They did a terrible job. I will not be running another On Hill race and will tell all my friends to avoid as well. Pretty angry argot the whole experience.

We walked about 15 minutes to get the start line this year. It was cold but we made it. I love this race. The organization is the best in the town.

My favorite course down Big Cottonwood Canyon. Nice finish without a lot of flat at the end allows for a strong finish!

One of my favorites

I love this race! Beautiful, fast course, and there something magical about running this canyon in June. Even though it can be a bit cold at the start the weather is always wonderful! The bus situation is a bit unorganized but I like the two time options. If you like be be up top early you can, I like the late bus since it still gets us up in time to use the potty and start the race. I like the smaller race and don’t run it for the swag. The medals & drop bags could be a little better.

Fun

I absolutely loved the scenery. Fast down hill. A lot of my friends PR'd...but I paced and it was a blast. Didn't like the slope of the road in parts, but was still a lot of fun.

Drop 13 Review

Great scenery. Good half marathon for your 1st time. Can earn a PR medal, medal for losing 13+lbs, & finishing. I wish they had more RR along the way.My 1st yr I raced this I skipped the RR at the 1st 2 stops because the lines were crazy only to reach mile 6 to find ONE TOILET!! Unfortunately I HAD to go & lost 20 minutes on my time.Post race food is decent, tec shirts are good. Busing could be better. My sis missed the early start time b/c of the busing problem & we were there sooner than told.

Beautiful!!

The most beautiful run I have done in a while. It was frustrating to see runners bussed up well after the "firm " time limit. But once the race started it didn't matter anymore.
