The 2017 Addict II Athlete 5K is officially open for registration. This has been a devastating year for those who have battled addiction and for family members who have struggled with a loved one's addiction. On average right now in our communities, within the United States of America, 144 people lose their lives daily due to opiate-based addictions and overdoses. And that's only one substance.
Team Addict II Athlete has suffered several accounts of this epidemic on our team. In October 2016 Athlete Brandon Black, a kind, warmhearted athlete lost his battle and took a knee due to this overpowering opiate addiction. As a result to bring awareness, show support for his family and to bring awareness to our communities that this is a real epidemic, team Addict II Athlete will carry the message of awareness, recovery and compassion to his community, his hometown of Salem, Utah.
This free 5K will serve as a proxy runner event. A proxy runner is a loved one who uses their legs in honor of a loved one who has lost the battle to addiction or as a sign of love for a family member or loved one who is still battling addiction.
We express as a team our deepest condolences for those who have received the call, felt the void or missed that family member and friend because of addiction. Team Addict II Athlete stands behind you. We are your support system and your team to help you turn the mess of addiction and loss into the message of hope and healing. To assist us as we erase addiction and replace it with family, love, support and awareness in this service oriented activity.
As head coach of team Addict II Athlete I invite you to participate and to run alongside, as proxy for those who have lost their battle and to invoke hope for those who are on the pathway to healing. Register today and we'll see you at the starting line.
