Logan City Marathon Race Description

NOTE: We have exceeded our planned runner projections.  While this is VERY EXCITING FOR US, we want to ensure you understand, before your register, that there is a high likelihood that we will not be able to provide a finishers medal and t-shirt for you at the time of registration. For this reason, we have discounted the race price $10 until race day.

If you do not receive a T-shirt or medal, we will SEND THEM AFTER the event, (once we get the new ones delivered to us from the vendors).  We will pay postage as well. We hope this doesn't discourage you from registering, and that you will join us anyway.

Packet Pick-up:

Friday, September 20, 4pm to 8PM at Al’s Sporting Goods, 1075 North Main, Logan, Utah.  You must have a photo id to collect your packet.  You may collect someone else's packet if you have a copy of their photo id and a note signed by them.  If you are unable to collect your packet or have someone else collect it for you on Friday, September 20, please email logandowntown@gmail.com for instructions.

Al’s will also have discount coupons available for $5 off anything in the store with a purchase of at least $10.

Description

With the success of the Top of Utah Half Marathon, 2019 is the perfect time to do something new with the 26.2 mile marathon, and showcase another beautiful part of our great state of Utah. We are also adding an exciting Downtown Logan start and finish, a new 2-person marathon-relay, and a new 10K Urban Trail Race, 5K Fun Run, and a Kids & Family Fun Miler.

We invite you to celebrate the beauty of the Logan, Utah area by running through historic districts, past golf courses, along river trails, on wide-open country roads, through wetland areas, and all in the shadow of the beautiful Wellsville Mountain Range. In our first year, (2019), because of late construction on Center Street in Logan, the race will start and finish in the same location on 100 North (between Main Street and 100 West). In 2020 runners will gather, start and finish on a newly remodeled city block on Center Street in Downtown Logan. For the 2019 and 2020 events, Logan City will completely closing down the city block from 100 West to Main Street, so you can safely arrive, run, mingle and eat afterwards, and return to your cars safely.

Our new course is the "Flattest Run in the West" with most of the course grade at or near 0. We will keep the same traditional Top of Utah weekend, but leave the Blacksmith Fork Canyon downhill run for the Top of Utah Half Marathon. The new city route will provides an open and fast path through the west-side of the Logan and Cache Valley. At the half-way point (13.1 miles), the Mendon City Park will allow for a perfect transition site for our NEW 2-person relay hand-off (see COURSE MAP at https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/2640981796).

All runners start and finish on a strait-forward 6-block stretch down Historic Center Street, and complete their event on the newly remodeled city block in downtown Logan.  For this event, you won't have to get up at 4:30 am to catch a bus, nor bundle-up like a mummy, so get some more sleep and join us as the dawn breaks and the sun crests the Cone of the Wellsville Range (~7am). While we are going to throw a lot of new cool stuff at you, many of the same Top of Utah features will remain like frequent hydro stations, big and bold finisher metals, photos on the course and finish line, as well as  timing and race results.

NEW for 2019, all registered runners will receive a brunch courtesy of Historic Center Street restaurants, featuring a wide-selection of baked goods, waffles and pancakes, crepes, eggs, drinks and other items to refuel after the race. We will also feature music throughout the course and at the start and finish lines. We also think you will be BLOWN AWAY by a new Altra Runner’s Festival hosted by our presenting sponsor, Altra Running.

Great race

I wanted to try the new course on its first year and I was not disappointed. It was lovely! Running along the River walk trail was a lot of fun. As we went under the road there was a paper bullseye that said to hit it for power. I did, both directions. Running out to Mendon there was a splendid view most of the way of the beautiful snowcapped Wellsville Mountains. The people at the aid stations did a great job. The finish party was wonderful. It was nice to get a lunch. I loved being able to get a good night's rest before the marathon and arrive at the start 15 minutes before gun time. It was awesome to have so many distances to choose from. Some of my grand children ran the 1 mile Family Run and were thrilled to cross the finish line and get a finishers medal. The shirts were a nice design. I ran the Ogden Marathon this year. My Logan Marathon time was 10 minutes slower. I actually expected it to be a lot slower than that with it being a flat course. I qualified for Boston in both races. I do wish there had been mile markers for each mile. I also wish I had known exactly what food was going to be at each aid station. Most aid stations had fruit and breads along with Gatorade and water. Some had only drinks. The race info said that the one of the sponsors was Stinger so I expected to find Stingers at some of the aid stations but I never saw it. I did not stop at the half way aid station so maybe they were there. I ate fruit and a granola bar but would have carried a GU or something like a Stinger if I had understood it wouldn't be at the aid station. I also wish there had been trophies for the age group winners although it was fun have the age group winner prize be a Malouf pillow. Over all it was an outstanding race. I will definitely do it again with the many choices of distances.

Logan City Marathon ( a unique Marathon in its clase)

If you like to challenge yourself running a marathon this is what you have to run, it is a great course, beautiful views, running in part a long the Logan River, flat enough to speed up and some little up hills to make your legs tired, what you get for sign it up: a t-shirt, well stock aid station, nice medal at the finish line and my fav. part a full meal from different vendors a unique thing from other races, very safe and great people to run with, sure this is my humble opinion, don’t be deceived for what you can hear your have to run it to get your own experience of course any marathon is easy if you want it easy running it slow if you want to get the 100% and all the eximente of it then fly it, it is worthy. Ah! and the last part a profesional timing to get you time and pace if that matters to you, jajajaja. If you hadn’t run it before don’t miss it next year and if 26.2 is not your distance look the other options either way you always will have FUN.

Half marathon relay participant

This was such a beautiful course, the miles just seemed to fly by as you took in the beauty of being surrounded by nature. The course was well organized and everyone had the runners as the #1 concern! Having food available at the end was such a treat. I loved having pickles and pickle juice available during the run and the free massage at the finish line was welcomed! Great job Logan Marathon team!

Relay

Very well put together for this to be Troy's first time, the course was beautiful (I would add more signs to give more directions), the atmosphere in the starting line and the finish line was great (I would add more staff in the transition relay point and give medals to the finishers of the 1st half), overall great race!

Beautiful scenic views, flat and fast course

Despite being surrounded by mountains, the course is nearly pancake-flat. You get fantastic views of snow-capped mountains on both sides. Aid stations were plentiful and well-stocked, with items that you usually only find at races of ultra length. Spectator support, though sparse, was fantastic in areas where it was available. Be aware that, in 2019, at least, there was no signage at mile markers. Mileage can be divined by seeking out spray-painted markers...so this race isn't idea for anyone who wants to track their splits methodically. Still, this is a perfect marathon for anyone attempting the distance in all fifty states.
